With Woocommerce subscriptions we are able to automate reoccurring orders for our customers without the need for an external subscription management system. The software seamlessly integrated with out existing woocommerce store and payment gateway. The setup was very straightforward and since launching on our store it has become one of the primary online revenue streams.
  • Quickly integrate with an existing woocommerce installation
  • Automate the process of creating customer subscriptions in our admin dashboard
  • Integrate with stripe to authorize and process subscription payments
  • Subscription management interface for customers
  • Ability to create subscription bundles
  • Customising subscription emails sent to customers
Works very well for products with a pre-determined subscription frequency that will continue indefinitely until the customer decides to cancel or edit their subscription. If a product could have a flexible subscription frequency this can be a more complex process to setup and put the ui controls in place on the frontend.
  • Very high return on investment for subscription products
  • Enables the option to forecast stock requirements and manage cashflow

I use WooCommerce Subscriptions for my own business and I help clients set up subscription products on their websites as well. Examples of subscriptions my clients and I use are monthly website maintenance and security, subscription-based membership programs, auto-ship products, coaching, retainers, directories, etc.
  • Payment plans on higher-end products
  • Monthly subscriptions or retainers
  • Works well with WooCommerce members
  • Perfect of group coaching and masterminds
  • Better syncing to ActiveCampaign for renewal reminders
  • Make it easier for clients to update their credit cards and have it automatically apply to all subscriptions
WooCommerce Subscriptions is great for people wanting to offer payment plans on higher-ticket products and services. It's excellent for recurring revenue from products such as masterminds, coaching, memberships, retainer offers, etc. I miss that we could buy bundles of licenses at one time to use with clients.
  • Smoothed out cashflow
  • Added additional streams of income
  • Gave me another tool to use to help my clients increase their revenue
Stripe subscriptions, PayPal subscriptions, LearnDash. I like that WooCommerce works with multiple payment processors and it makes it easy to remove people from a group or membership if they haven't paid that month.

WooCommerce Subscriptions powers a paid learning site for photographers. I needed a platform for processing regular subscription payments through my WordPress website that supported various subscription levels, renewal terms, coupons, etc. WooCommerce Subscriptions met these needs and helped launch our subscription website. It handles the registration, billing, and management of users and their subscriptions within our eCommerce store.
  • Create and manage subscriptions on your WordPress website
  • Connect with learning management systems for online courses
  • Integrates with the rest of the WooCommerce suite
  • The subscription pricing model is expensive, and may not work for low budget projects
  • Integrations are good, but sometimes buggy or difficult to customize
  • Creating a good user experience throughout the entire subscription workflow takes some time and energy
WooCommerce Subscriptions is a solid option for WordPress based eCommerce sites, particularly if you are already using WooCommerce as your eCommerce platform. It works for simple subscriptions, allows for customization in terms of email notifications, pricing, coupons, etc. It obviously would not be a good fit for non-WordPress websites, and it may be too much if all you need are very simple subscription plans.
  • Automated billing
  • Stripe integration
  • Multiple subscription tiers
  • Increased recurring monthly/yearly revenue
  • Decreased time spent managing billing and subscriptions manually
  • Eliminated manual onboarding time, creating accounts by hand, etc.

We sell a print subscription and a digital subscription to our magazine. WooCommerce Subscriptions allowed us to ditch an antiquated fulfillment house (Palm Coast Data) that used to capture the transaction for our users and manage entitlements but didn't allow us the flexibility of design, tweaks, or split test landing pages or prices, install tracking code, or perform customer service in house. WooCommerce Subscriptions allowed us to properly monetize our WordPress based site without any overhead beyond the nominal yearly price of the plugin. It integrates with all sorts of WordPress plugins and actions, allowing for customizations that have allowed us to really control and optimize the user journey from first interaction all the way to checkout and service.
  • Perfect native integration with the WordPress ecosystem.
  • Zapier integration to support external integrations.
  • Excellent support of coupons, free trials, reduced price trial periods, etc.
  • Failed payment retries.
  • Multiple payment gateway support.
  • Analytics aren't as detailed and user friendly as they could be.
  • Free trials are easy to implement but reduced price trials aren't.
  • Gift subscriptions are only supported through a third party extension, leaving functionality to be desired.
In a nutshell, anyone who has a subscription business and a WordPress / WooCommerce based shop should use WooCommerce Subscriptions to handle the business. If you don't have WooCommerce / WordPress, then you're out of luck. We have really pushed the customization of WC Subscriptions functionality to the limit and believe me, a LOT is possible with it. Having sold both physical and digital subscriptions, I really can't think of any scenario where it might fall short.
  • I haven't calculated it in exact numbers, but easily a huge ROI. The bigger the business, the bigger the ROI since WooCommerce is a flat fee every year ($140 or so) and there's no transaction fees or other variable costs, so the bigger the business, the better the ROI.
  • It has enabled us to use paid media profitably and ditch tens of thousands of dollars a year of outdated services from our fulfillment house.
  • Has really made it possible for us to run proper marketing.
  • Stripe
It's just much better than simply using Stripe or other WordPress payment plugins that only rely on Stripe. We can incorporate non-Stripe supported payment gateways such as PayPal and Amazon Payments which support recurring payments. More options for the user means less friction at checkout. Also, everything is seamlessly integrated within WooCommerce and WordPress, which is our bread and butter, synchronizing all our customer service within a single CRM.
The ticketing system of WooCommerce and WooCommerce Subscriptions is not state of the art. I wish it were an intercom type of support, But I honestly very rarely need support so it's partially a non-issue. Documentation is also very good so it preemptively addresses things that you might typically need support on. One thing I hate about WooCommerce plugins' support MO is that you're always asked to reset to the standard WP theme and deactivate all plugins, which is near impossible to do in a production environment. So their preliminary steps for offering support are highly onerous.

WooCommerce Subscriptions is being used by our organization to offer and manage subscriptions we have implemented this for the first time last year and has helped generate new revenue that we did not get before. It is used by sales and operations - sales sells and operations manages it. This is a great tool for organizations looking for additional revenue streams.
  • Charging customers on a set time frame
  • Ease of use
  • Reports
  • More options to charge customers over custom time frames
  • Allow for more customization
  • Integration with other tools
WooCommerce is best suited for organizations that need to charge customers on a recurring basis. It does not work if this is not a tool your business needs. It is a great tool for us as we offer care packages and plans to pay off your device. It really helps bring in more revenue.
  • More revenue, more reporting in less time.
I have not used other subscription platforms so it is difficult to say how WooCommerce Subscriptions stacks up against them. We selected WooCommerce Subscriptions because we moved our site over to the Word Press platform. It has been a great plugin and does exactly what we need it to do.
I rate WooCommerce Subscriptions a 9 out of 10 because it has helped our business grow and allows new options for our customers. It would get a 10 if we were able to customize it further to our business needs, but it works well right out of the box.

WooCommerce gives us the ability to charge customers on a recurring basis. We allow customers to pay for Care Package with all of the hearing aid supplies they need to clean and care for their hearing aids. We automatically charge the customer every 3 months and send the package. It is integrated with Salesforce so our shipping department sees these orders and ships them out.

The people the support Woo Commerce subscriptions have to have good attention to detail. Some skills that are required to help support WooCommerce Subscriptions in the most effective manner are Python, Debt Collection, Financial Analytics, a good eye to catch errors and make sure all subscriptions are being charged and shipped properly. We have 3 external developers that help with some more complicated integrations.
  • Charging customers monthly
  • Generating revenue
  • Managing subscriptions
  • Used it as a workaround for a private sale financing option - pay over time for your hearing aid
  • 0% APR financing plan workaround
  • Free Trial - charge at the end
We are very likely to renew our Woo Commerce subscriptions add on. We are dedicated to WordPress and plan to grow our business significantly. Woo Commerce subscriptions enables us to manage and extend our subscription revenue easily. We did not have this a few years ago and we have seen the uplift in revenue from using it!
Yes
Shopify Subscriptions, we replaced Shopify with WordPress and then needed to replace the subscription tools available.
  • Price
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
  • Vendor Reputation
The single most important factor in our decision was features and usability. It is important for a product to have strong features with ease of use. I find that some products have too many features and not a good usability design for the user. It is necessary for the features to be easy to use.
We can always evaluate and select products in more methodological manner. We have had to scramble to get new products in due to the nature of a fast paced changing business.
  • Implemented in-house
No
Change management was minimal
It was a smooth and easy implementation for us. Downloaded the add-on and made a few integrations to salesforce and shipstation and we were up and running within a day.
No
I do not have an instance when Automattic provide us with exceptional support for the WooCommerce subscription product. Overall we found that most of our questions are answered in the documentation and instructions associated with the product so there has not been much need to work with Automattic.
  • Updating subscriptions
  • Reporting on subscription revenue
  • Adding new subscriptions
  • Extracting data - python required
  • custom subscription intervals
It is simple and easy to use right out of the box. One can always make it more complicated i.e. extracting and reporting on data with python and SQL, but overall for an organization that wants to get subscription products or service up and running this a great tool and easy to use right out the box.
